Grammy '09 Nominations

Record of the Year
Adele - Chasing Pavements
Coldplay - Viva La Vida
Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love
MIA - Paper Planes
Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - Please Read the Letter

Album of the Year
Coldplay - Viva La Vida
Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III
Ne-Yo - Year of the Gentleman
Robert Plant & Allison Krauss - Raising San
Radiohead - In Rainbows

As far as the hip hop side goes, Lil Wayne got way too many nominations (9). Even his fans did not consider this his best work. Once again, quality hip hop work was left out of the rap considerations and regular considerations (If Ne-Yo wins album of the year, that would be the most ridiculous thing ever).

the grammys are so fucking confusing b/c 2009 somehow actually also refers to the last couple months of 2008 as well. whatever.

thoughts: i actually think ne-yo is one of the most talented r&b songwriters/composers around these days and talk umbrage w/ your comment. i'm biased, i guess, b/c my favorite music blog, idolator, worships ne-yo, but i think his songs are really well constructed and unusually intelligent.

and it's not that it's my personal favorite, but "paper planes" actually is the record of the year, right? also, how great would it be if "in rainbows" (which is now 14 months old) won record of the year?

Pitchfork claims that the Grammy nominations are somewhat relevant this year. I will believe that as soon as there is a year when the nominations give the impression that music is good.

I find it funny that No Age and Cornelius are both nominees, though I guess with 110 categories, Grammy nominees constitute the majority of the world's population.

Also happy to see Radiohead nominated again, though the fact that this comes 14 months after the album was released reinforces the fact that the Grammys are anti-progressive and run counter to the immediacy with which In Rainbows was bestowed upon humanity.

That's enough of my bile. Music rules!
