as if you needed other reasons to go to SXSW...

swiped from city pages:

"Off-the-beaten-path show of the week: CXNEXSEXSW, a non-SXSW event which was held in a conference room in the Capitol Place Hotel. The description on promised an indoor slip 'n' slide and generic cereal bar. When I got there, the inflatable slide was covered in mustard. The floor was strewn with balloons. There were boxes of cereal, cups of pudding, and cookies laid out on a table, as well as big bowls of Fruit Loops mixed with shrimp and sardines. These kids were weird and I liked that. Emperor X turned out to be one guy who played a solo set on acoustic guitar. For his big finish, he jumped onto the deflating slide, popping balloons and sending splatters of mustard flying. I still have yellow spots on my jeans."

i went to this for about 45 seconds, as i was unable to keep a straight face. that and the place smelled like rotting seafood and vaseline.

it should be noted the original description promised "an erotic Microsoft PowerPoint presentation" as well. but who could say no to a free generic cereal bar?

I love this woman.

Minneapolitan Diablo Cody's book, Candy Girl, spiced up my otherwise bland winter break--and now it's getting some major national attention.

Here she is on Letterman this past Monday

(i have the book if you want to borrow it)

Check it out!

There's an article about WMCN in the alumni magazine, Macalester Today. Tell your parents about it (they should be getting one in the mail) or look at it online at

i've never noticed the albums button on the chart selector option on (formerly audioscrobbler, of course). it makes a pretty covers collage of the albums you've listened to. i guess it'd be even prettier if more of my images were available.

(i can't believe i just linked my audioscrobbler to all of wmcn. i'm exposed; i'm vulnerable. now please, join me. say what you will. i know i'm uncool.)

i only watch this when i have a paper to write.

shit think shit think shit think
that stephanie, she's a good egg.

so much local music happening tonight (cecil, dessa, tapes 'n tapes, and adam broder TOGETHER; blind shake and birthday suits). but alas, it wasn't in my proverbial cards. did anyone go to either show?

today my mom said to me: "ann, be careful in austin. there are dangerous bars where people play heavy metal music."

i love you to the max,

oh! and don't forget about that rock director position.
